You would agree with me that backlink is an essential part of every ranking website on the internet. Backlinks may be liken to an energy booster that keeps the human body active and full of energy. It might not be so easy to generate enough backlinks since you need more than just a few of them. In my previous article i talked about how you can hire an SEO expert to work on backlinks for you if you are not experienced in that field.

But article will not be focusing on a third-party but rather your job alone. One of the most important questions people ask when ever backlinks subjects comes up is "Where do i get backlinks from?". I also mention in one of my articles earlier that one way to get backlinks is to exchange links with fellow Bloggers worldwide. But i feel that some newbies would want to look for another option as they think this particular strategy is stressful.

Ahref is an SEO tool where you can use in improving your website. You get to explore tools like Domain Authority (DA) checker, backlink checker, keywords research tool and lots more. For this strategy we are only going to focus on the backlink checker aspect. Now, this tool will help you to check in order words spy on which backlinks your competitors are making use of. So how can you spy on a competitor's backlink. To do so follow these steps below:

1. Go To Ahref Backlink Checker Tool

To Spy your competitor's backlink the first thing to do is visit ahref website backlink tool HERE . When you get there you should see something similar to this one in the photo below

And also ensure that there is a security key icon in the ahref URL so that you don't mistakenly enter the wrong website.

2. Enter Your Competitor's URL

Now that you're on the website you'll now proceed and enter your competitor's url in the "Enter domain or URL" area on the page as you can see below

Additionally, if you also want to spy the subdomain of the target link at once with the main domain then you select "Subdomain" option found beside the "Enter domain" area. But if you need to target just the main URL then simply tap on the "Subdomain" option and a drop-down menu will be opened, from there select the "domain" option. After you've modified everything to your taste click on "check backlinks".

3. Check For Backlinks

When you click on the "check backlinks button you will get a pop up window asking you to verify captcha. When you are done verifying a final page will open showing you top 100 backlinks that you competitor had built. If you want to get access to more than 100 backlinks check from a single target website then you must subscribe for paid membership on ahref. 

If you had followed my instructions and pass through the verification process then you should see something like this photo displayed above. If not scroll down a bit to see more. I believe you can see the red ink mark i made on the picture under "referring page". That's where your competitor placed his or her link. As i said before you have the opportunity to view 99 more of these similar websites your competitors has their URL placed.

Now that you have successfully spy your competitor's backlinks you can easily visit those websites one after the other and place your links as they did. This might be tedious but believe me it's worth it. Most of the websites you will visit through those backlinks would likely be a blog post while you place your URL via the comments section. Some could be forums where you could place you website link on your forum profile. It can be very easy if you understand what you are doing.

After placing your links there it might take a while before it reflects on your SEO record as backlinks, probably after Google crawlers visits your website again to get it Index. This shouldn't take long in some cases.

Key Factors To Note While Using Ahref Backlink Spy Tool

1. Backlinks : This is the sum or total number of links you get from other websites pointing to your website. If you leave two exact link on a single website it will indicate 2 backlinks but will give quality to only one. So there's no need for you to leave one URL multiple times on just one website. Only one link is enough per website.

2. Referring Domain's : This refers to total number of unique websites that links back to your website. This reflects back on what we talked about on backlinks. So referring domains will definitely give you the actually number of websites you've placed your links in.

3. Anchor Text : This is a forefront text that would contain your url. Actually you can use any text in anchor but some people use manipulative text so they could hide their link there. Some website do not allow direct placing of link, so you need to use this strategy in this case.

4. Domain Rating(DR) & URL Rating (UR) : Domain rating (DA) on backlinks shows you the domain rating of your competitors backlinks while URL rating (UR) refers to the main website authority.

Spying out your competitor's backlinks on MOZ can be very easy if you follow through the instructions carefully. So below here are some detailed instructions on how to spy your competitor's backlinks using MOZ backlink checker.

1. Navigate To MOZ backlink Checker Tool

To Spy out your competitor's backlinks using MOZ tool click HERE. The process is quite similar to that of ahref. The first thing to do in order to spy your competitor's backlink using this tool is to first of all visiting their website. For in-depth research you will need to create an account or login with your email and password if you are already a member.

2. Type In Your Competitor's Web Address

Now the next thing to do after logging in is navigate to MOZ link explorer on the homepage. This is where you'll put your competitor's url and check their backlinks. If you're on the right track your current page should look like this my screenshot below

Where i point the red ink on the photo is labeled "Enter url to analyze" is where you will type in your competitor's url, for example nairaland.com. Then click your enter button. If you are using a mobile phone pls switch to desktop mode to have have a better view and functionality.

3. Check Their Backlinks

Once you click the enter button you'll be redirected to the main backlinks page where you can spy on your competitor. You should have a similar page to this one found in the screenshot below 

The page shown in the photo above displays several useful features that you can check out but we want to focus on the backlink part. As you can see a website like nairaland.com has total number of 91k+ high quality links pointing towards it's website with a whopping sum of 80 Domain Authority (DA). No doubt you will love to know those sites that gave Nairaland such an incredible web authority.

To view Nairaland's backlinks simply click on "Linking Domain" as you can see from the photo above. After clicking on it you'll find all the linking domain on Nairaland. That is to say you have successfully spy on their backlinks and you can follow through to get backlinks right from where they got theirs. Supposing you are not a premium member and can't get access to everything including those backlinks simply opt in for free 30 days trial and cancel it before 30days is over so you won't be charged assuming you didn't have enough funds in your bank. Otherwise you could use a bank card that has less or no funds to activate the free trial.

The last but not the least spy backlinks tool we want to look at is ubersuggest (by Neil Patel) ubersuggest is a tool created by a very popular SEO expert named Neil Patel. He created the tool so Bloggers, content creators,etc. could get enough out of the norm which includes improving traffic, Domain Authority, doing keywords research,etc. With ubersuggest's SEO features you can drastically improve your blog ranking. Today, I'll show you how to spy on your competitor's backlinks so you could use them to improve your DA as well.

1. Go To Ubersuggest Backlink Checker

To start just click on this link and it will take you directly to ubersuggest backlink checker tool. By now you screen should be showing what mine is showing in the screenshot below. Kindly enter your competitor's url in the "enter url or domain space" click on submit.

2. Check Out Backlinks

After clicking on the submit button a new page will open. Scroll down and view backlinks as you can see in the photo below

In the photo you can see several websites "9jaflaver.com" had built backlinks on. You can enter any website address and spy on their backlinks as well even they aren't your competitors. However, note that as a free member on ubersuggest you can only get access to three queries daily on website analyzing. For more entries or queries you need to subscribe to their services which usually cost as low as $12 for monthly package and $120 for lifetime package.
