When we talk about SEO in YouTube it refers to setups you need to do so that your video ranks well both on YouTube and Google search engine. Personally when i started YouTubing it was difficult to gather my audience because i was just creating contents without considering how many people could be interested in it. But my story later changed for the best when i started implementing SEO. I was able to create contents that would attract a lot of views and gradually subscribers.

In this article I'm going to share with you how to do SEO for your YouTube contents especially if you are just starting out new. In the YouTubing industry there is nothing like Domain Authority and backlinks and so the only way to get those huge amount of views is to optimize your videos well. 1. YouTube Channel Name

When you decide to start up a YouTube channel you don't just go with that idea without having a suitable name for your channel. Just any name won't make any sense either but you have to come up with a name that represents what your YouTube channel is all about. For example if your channel is about tech reviews, products, etc. it wouldn't be appropriate to use a name that represents food. Let's say, instead of "Abdul Tech" you decide to use "Abdul foods" or "Abdul cookies", that would be a wrong idea. What's the point? Endeavor to brand your YouTube channel according to what it represents. Because your YouTube channel name defines your niche it is likely to rank more. Using an appropriate name too will not online increase your online presence but people are likely to take you more seriously.

2. Your Contents/Videos

How do you make sure to generate huge traffic to your YouTube channel constantly? Without a doubt, your contents are the first thing that brings people to your channel in the first place. Without contents people can find you! However, it's not just about contents but good contents. It so much appeals to viewers on YouTube if the video quality is excellent, so make sure that the videos you upload to your YouTube channel are of good quality.

I've seen some people's channel on YouTube that couldn't do well because they kept mixing up their videos. What do i mean by that? If you are YouTubing about tech then face tech contents alone and do not bring in contents from another niche like food, clothing, sports, etc. You can't mix up contents on your YouTube channel and expect viewers to give their full attention. People might even conclude that you are not serious about your YouTube channel and don't even know what to do, which is of course true.

My advice to everyone aspiring to be a YouTuber always is, Find a niche before you begin. A niche simply refers to subject that you want to focus on talk about. E.g tech. When your contents are focused on a niche it will help YouTube to know what to recommend to viewers. In other words, it a good thing for you search engine optimization (SEO).

3. The Hashtags

Remember i said there are neither backlinks nor Domain Authority in YouTubing. But there are what we call hashtags. What is an hashtag? An hashtag is a metadata that is used to label a word or contents, it indicates an emphasis. So when you use an hashtag in words of your contents it means that those words are important and should stand out. You can make use of hashtags in your YouTube video via your description. For example take a look at the photo below and see how these hashtags were place strategically.

As you can see in the photo above the YouTube channel is about make money online updates and that particular video is about one of the sites you can make money online. Now look at how the hashtags are place in such a way that if people were to search for those similar words in those hashtags they'll be recommended to watch that video. In hashtags you could simply mention popular searches but then it must be related to your niche and videos. For example you can't use an hashtag about food while your video is about tech. Using related and necessary hashtags will help rank your videos in the search and recommend areas on YouTube, thus helping you generate more views and subscribers for your channel.

You can put your hashtags anywhere in your YouTube video description or even in the title. However, ensure that your hashtags are not too many and not unnecessarily added especially in the title. Hashtags can help give your YouTube videos the best SEO anyone would wish for. Hashtags are very important for any video that wants to rank well on YouTube.

4. Inbound Links

Inbound links on YouTube videos are quite similar to inbound links in an article on a blog. An inbound link in YouTube is a link to your other video within your channel you can direct others to by simply clicking that link. Do you understand? As you can see in the video description i simply leave a link to another video within my channel I'll love people to watch probably after watching this very one they were watching. So for the fact that the video you are directing people to watch is still on your channel, it's then called "inbound link". If it was an external video, that's video from a different channel then it could have been called "outbound link". Using inbound links can increase the visibility of your channel as well as the video in the inbound link. It is a good way of applying SEO.

5. Thumbnails

Thumbnails in a way can boost your SEO because it will encourage more clicks if it's appealing to the audience. As a YouTuber you must know how to customize your thumbnails in terms of designing one. If you can't design a thumbnail then hire a graphic designer to do that for you. There are big differences you'll get on your views between using attractive thumbnails and the "not so good" thumbnails. To demonstrate, here is a difference between a good thumbnail and a bad one. In the photos displayed you can see two different definition of a bad thumbnail and a good one. I personally made an experiment with my thumbnails on YouTube and i discovered that people were more attracted to my video that had a thumbnail than one with a default thumbnail which wasn't attractive.
